<b>Remember:</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you nap, remember an ideal nap is early (before 3 PM), so it does not interfere with getting to sleep at night. Try to nap in quiet, restful settings, and make naps short (perhaps as short as five minutes, and no longer than a half hour).</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wilhelmina "Minnie" Vautrin is considered a Kuan Yin Pusa "Goddess of Mercy". A Living Buddha.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wilhelmina "Minnie" Vautrin was an American missionary, diarist, educator, and president of Ginling College. She was a Christian missionary in China for 28 years. She is known for the care and protection of as many as ten thousand Chinese refugees during the Rape of Nanking (1937-38). The Japanese soldiers immediately went on a rampage of committing despicable crimes. They gang-raped women and tortured victims to death.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thousands of women poured into Ginling and the campus was soon overcrowded with refugees. Vautrin had to stand at the college's front gate to urge the older women to return home and leave room for Ginling to protect the younger ones. But, most of them refused to leave. They kneeled on the ground, tearfully begging to be admitted into the campus. Seeing the sad scene, Vautrin let all of them in. At the zenith of the Japanese atrocity, the small women's college was crowded with over 10,000 women and children. She spent her day and night rushing to wherever the soldiers intruded on the campus to keep them out. Some of them became so angry that they slapped her face. They threatened her with their bloodstained bayonets. One night, they demanded that she leave the campus. She replied, "This is my home. I cannot leave".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In addition, Vautrin cared for the refugees' well-being. For instance, she made arrangements to serve them rice-porridge, teach them to sing hymns to lift their spirit and she even tried to locate their missing husbands and sons, who were their families' sole breadwinners. After persisting in the Nanking Safety Zone from 1937, she returned to the United States under extreme stress in 1940.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A year later, on May 14, 1941, while alone in a friend's apartment in Indianapolis, she ended her own life. She was only 55 years old. She left a note saying that her life was a "failure" and wishing that she could return to her work in China.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Vautrin was posthumously awarded the Emblem of the Blue Jade by the Chinese government for her sacrifices during the Nanjing Massacre.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hachikō (ハチ公, November 10, 1923 – March 8, 1935) was a Japanese Akita dog remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner, Hidesaburō Ueno (上野 英三郎 Ueno Hidesaburō), for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following Ueno's death.<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ueno went to work by train every day and Hachiko became his faithful companion. Every morning he accompanied him to the Shibuya train station and in the afternoon he went back to meet him when he returned. One day, while teaching at the university, Ueno suffered a sudden cardiac arrest that ended his life. However, Hachiko continued to wait for him in Shibuya. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Day after day Hachiko went to the station and waited for hours for his owner, looking for his face among the thousands of strangers passing by. These days turned into months and months and eventually into years. Hachiko waited tirelessly for his owner for nine long years. Through rain, snow or sunshine.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
People have shown much affection and admiration for Hachiko and his loyalty. So much so, a statue of him was revealed in 1934 in front of the same train station where he waited for his owner every day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVdazjGvAY6OEPb8-GNv3e2DJbM3yNgtRyVj2u9-bYoBUBX3cobwfRYgPk6kI2trXBQADgjg1G8u75P4OzI1bVe6SqnG13Rr3ch7QO55BpwTiI31RTUs3nbdenImowFec2po9s5A/s1600/53933973_2393851087513469_871275231715524608_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVdazjGvAY6OEPb8-GNv3e2DJbM3yNgtRyVj2u9-bYoBUBX3cobwfRYgPk6kI2trXBQADgjg1G8u75P4OzI1bVe6SqnG13Rr3ch7QO55BpwTiI31RTUs3nbdenImowFec2po9s5A/s320/53933973_2393851087513469_871275231715524608_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On March 9, 1935, Hachiko was dead at the foot of the statue. He died because of old age, in the same place where he had waited for his owner's return for nine years. The remains of the faithful dog were buried next to those of his owner in the cemetery of Aoyama in Tokyo.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
During World War II all bronze statues were cast to manufacture armaments, including that of Hachiko. Nevertheless, a few years later, a society was created to produce a new statue and to put it in the same place. Finally, Takeshi Ando, the son of the original sculptor, was hired to rework the statue.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Today the statue of Hachiko continues to stand in the same place, in front of the station of Shibuya. Every April 8 commemorates his fidelity.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hachiko's body is now preserved at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Insects have three main body parts: Head, Thorax, Abdomen.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The head is used mainly for eating, sensing things and gathering information. Insect mouth-parts have evolved for chewing (beetles, caterpillars), piercing-sucking (aphids, bugs), sponging (flies), sucking (moths), rasping-sucking (thrips), cutting-sponging (biting flies), and chewing-lapping (wasps).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All insects have two antennae that they use to sense the world around them. Whether their antennae are short, long, thick, thin, insects use them to feel, smell and even taste!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The thorax protects the body and gives support for three pairs of jointed legs and, on many insects, for one or two pairs of wings. The legs may be adapted for running, grasping, digging, or swimming.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The abdomen contains the organs used for digestion and reproduction.</div>

The use of mummy as a drug was widespread in Europe from the twelfth to the seventeenth centuries, and its employment lingered on for a hundred years later.<br />
<br />
Its supposed virtue was originally based upon the medicinal properties of natural bitumen obtained from the Dead Sea and elsewhere. During the Middle Ages mummy was obtained from embalmed human bodies—in Egypt—which were believed to have been prepared with bitumen. Even at the present day, the statement is current that the Egyptians used bitumen for mummification, but this is erroneous, for the embalming-material is resin, although its appearance often simulates that of bitumen.<br />
<br />
The supply being obtained from mummified human bodies, the virtues of the drug were transferred to the bodies themselves. In the course of time, the term mummy lost its original association with bitumen and was applied to medicated flesh in general.<br />
<br />
The use of mummy in medicine did not finally become obsolete until the latter part of the eighteenth century.<br />

The swastika sign means ‘Well Being’, ‘Good Existence, and ‘Good Luck’. It is used as a religious symbol by most Buddhist and Hindu. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In Hinduism, the right-hand swastika is a symbol of the God Vishnu and the Sun, while the left-hand swastika is a symbol of Kali and Magic. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In Buddhism, the swastika is a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, abundance and eternity. It is directly related to Buddha and can be found carved on statues on the soles of his feet and on his heart. It is said that it contains Buddha’s mind. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Why did the NAZI use the symbol?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b>Shortly after taking power in 1933, Hitler’s regime replaced the constitutionally-mandated black-red-gold flag of the Weimar Republic that had been linked with Germany’s democratic traditions. On March 12, 1933, President Paul von Hindenburg and Adolf Hitler issued a decree stating that henceforth the old German Imperial flag (black-white-red) was to be flown together with the swastika flag. Hitler selected the swastika as the emblem of racial purity displayed on a red background <i>“to win over the worker.” </i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to American correspondent William Shirer, <i>"The hooked cross seemed to beckon to action the insecure lower-middle classes which had been floundering in the uncertainty of the first chaotic postwar years."</i> As Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf, <i>“In red we see the social idea of the movement, in white the Nationalist idea, and in the swastika the vision of’ the struggle for the victory of the Aryan man.”</i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

The symbol, normally with its arms bent towards the left, is also known in Hinduism as the sathio or sauvastika. Hindus mark swastikas on thresholds, doors and the opening pages of account books – anywhere where its power to ward off misfortune might come in handy.<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In Buddhism, the symbol has similarly positive connotations and, though its meaning varies among different branches of the Buddhist faith, its value is typically linked to auspiciousness, good fortune and long life.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The ‘counterclock’ Manji — with the ‘trailing lines’ running from the ends of the central cross to the left (called “Omote“) — represents infinite mercy.<br /><br />The Nazis, twisting the true meaning of the “Ura Manji”, adopted it and tilted the Manji symbol at an angle of 45 degrees (corners pointing upwards and invariably in black). When the German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann discovered the remains of the lost city of Troy in 1871, his famous excavation uncovered around 1,800 instances of the swastika, a motif that could also be found amid the archaeological remains of Germanic tribes. German author Ernst Ludwig Kraust later brought the swastika into the political arena of German völkisch nationalism in 1891, also relating it to both Hellenic and Vedic subject matter.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As the distorted concept of Aryanism – previously a linguistic term concerned with connections between German, Romance and Sanskrit languages – began to form the basis of a confused new ethnic identity, the swastika became the symbol of supposed Aryan superiority.</div>

<br />
OK, so why 7 days in the week? Because the bible said so?<br />
<br />
No.<br />
<br />
Let us thank the Babylonians for this. There was really no natural reason for a seven days but the Babylonians broke down the lunar month into manageable chunks of seven days since the number seven had a mystical significance to them. They assigned 7 celestial bodies in each days of a week then decided to measure a full lunar cycle as 28 days and then divide that into 4 weeks of seven days each. Then, they made the seventh day as “holy” marking rituals every seventh-day.<br />
<br />
The Hebrews adopted these days and so as other cultures in ancient Mesopotamia and throughout the ancient world, even in the Far Eastern empires of China and Japan. BTW, when the Book of Genesis was written in approx. 950 BC. the Jews have borrowed the idea of the 7 days from the Babylonians. The Lunar calendar with seven days a week was a Babylonian invention. The Hebrew "god" has nothing to do with it. His "story-tellers" just plagiarized the idea from Babylonian astronomers.<br />
<br />
The Romans adopted the Babylonian system and added many features of the modern 7-day week. Roman Emperor Constantine formally adopted the seven-day week in AD 321, it had been in use informally since the first century BC. A Christian convert Constantine made Sunday - the Christian Sabbath - the first day of the week, and Saturday - the Jewish day of rest - as the last.<br />

Most on the picture are Indian deities. The reason for that is the assurance to provide nourishment and prosperity. Ang tawag dyan sa hand gesture na yan eh mundra. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dyan naman kay Buddha. Mudra naman ang tawag dyan. Yung sa picture, tawag dyan eh Karana Mudra which use to disperse negative energy. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yun naman sa icon ni Jesus, it is a symbol which spell the four letter abbreviation of the Greek for Jesus. The three fingers of Christ – as well as spelling out “I” and “X” – confess the Tri-unity of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The touching finger and thumb of Jesus not only spell out “C”, but attest to the Incarnation: to the joining of divine and human natures found in the body of Jesus Christ.</div>

It was celebrated every February 15 but when Pope Gelasius "Christianize" it, he declared February 14 as St. Valentine’s Day.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is also believed that February 14 was the mating season of birds in England and France, that is why the day become associated with love.</div>

In the original Tolkien novel, the Eagles agreed to help Gandalf as a favor, in return for him having saved the life of their Lord by healing him from an arrow wound before the events of the story [See:The Hobbit, "Out of the Frying-Pan and into the Fire]. However, the Eagles were afraid of the men of the Vales of Anduin, who shot arrows at them to keep them from stealing livestock. Therefore, the Eagles took the Company only a short distance.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, according to Tolkien (The Letters of J. R. R. Tolkien), "The Eagles are a dangerous 'machine'. I have used them sparingly, and that is the absolute limit of their credibility or usefulness. The alighting of a Great Eagle of the Misty Mountains in the Shire is absurd; it also makes the later capture of G. [Gandalf] by Saruman incredible, and spoils the account of his escape" (Letter 210).</div>

Dream catchers are often believed to have originated from the Ojibwa Chippewa tribe in particular. The Ojibwe word for dreamcatcher <i>asabikeshiinh</i> actually means "spider," referring to the web woven to loosely cover the hoop. The patterns of the dream catcher are similar to the webbing these Native Americans also used for making snowshoes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to the Ojibwa story, a mystical and maternal "Spider Woman" served as the spiritual protector for the tribe, especially for young children, kids and babies. As the Ojibwe people continued to grow and spread out across the land, The Spider Woman found it difficult to continue to protect and watch over all the members of the tribe as they migrated farther and farther away. This is why she created the first dreamcatcher. Following her example, mothers and grandmothers would recreate the maternal keepsake as a means of mystically protecting their children and families from afar.</div>

The word <i>"Panahon pa ng Kopong-kopong"</i> is a Tagalog phrase which means "a very long time ago." The origin of the term "kopong" is an old Tagalog word for zero, so technically speaking,<i> Panahon pa ng Kopong-Kopong</i> means 1900 and note the two "00" or "kopong." </div>
