The Philippine National Anthem

The Philippine National Anthem (Lupang Hinirang) began as an instrumental marched composed by Julian Felipe called Marcha National Filipina on June 5, 1898.

Jose Palma wrote the lyrics. On September 3, 1899 La Independencia published the score. The english translation was written by Camilo Osias. Osias's version was officially adopted on September 22, 1943 by virtue of Executive Order No. 211 as ordered by Jorge Vargas, chairman of the Philippine Evecutive Committee during the Japanese occupation.

The Filipino translation was written by Ildefonso Santos , Francisco Caballo and Julian Cruz Balmaceda. "O Sintang Lupa" was approved as the national anthem in and was proclaimed official on May 26, 1956 and was changed to "Lupang Hinirang".

Bayang magiliw
Perlas ng Silanganan,
Alab ng puso,
Sa dibdib mo'y buhay.

Lupang Hinirang,
Duyan ka ng magiting,
Sa manlulupig,
Di ka pasisiil.

Sa dagat at bundok,
Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw,
May dilag ang tula
At awit sa paglayang minamahal.

Ang kislap ng watawat
mo'yTagumpay na nagniningning,
Ang bituin at araw niya
Kailan pa ma'y di magdidilim.

Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya, na pag may mang-aapi
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa iyo.
